Today in groups of 3 we made Sushi in HCG. We created, examined and tested our Sushi and overall I am happy with what my group and I have produced.
To make Sushi:
Boil 1 cup of rice + 1 ½ cups of water. Allow it to simmer for 15 minutes once boiled.
Once the rice is ready to the rice add a ¼ cup of water, 1 sachet of sugar and a sprinkle of salt.
Cut up your veggies or any other ingredients you would like to add to your sushi, place them in the cooler to chill.
Once everything is prepared, place your ingredients of a sushi nori (seaweed). First add your rice and make sure it is evenly distributed across your seaweed followed by all your toppings.
Use a sushi mat to roll all your contents together and wet the edges to close up the sushi roll.
Cut your sushi using a long knife and start plating.
Why do we need to be careful with rice?
Because rice carries bacteria in the starch that could cause food poisoning if the rice is not cleaned properly.
How does sushi vinegar reduce bacteria?
Adding white vinegar to rice makes the ph level drop which makes the rice acidic. By making the rice acidic it helps reduce the chances of bacteria from contaminating the rice.
The name of the bacteria that lives in rice is called bacillus cereus.
The symptoms of food poisoning is vomiting and diarrhoea.
